Why you'll love Balham Blue
Balham Blue is an artisanal plant-based blue cheese and one of La Fauxmagerie's most accomplished creations. Inspired by dairy's Shropshire Blue, it is beautifully coated and veined with authentic Penicillium roqueforti mould, the same culture used in traditional blue cheese, which develops fragrant, piquant blue notes throughout. An almond base brings a smooth, creamy richness, while sweet potato and vibrant annatto lend a striking orange hue and a mellow, subtly sweet depth that balances the funk. The result is a full-flavoured yet approachable blue that even blue-cheese sceptics tend to enjoy.
How to use Balham Blue
Balham Blue is at its best on a cheeseboard, served at room temperature alongside crackers, fresh sourdough, apple or pickled pear, and walnuts, with a drizzle of something sweet to play against its piquancy. It crumbles beautifully over salads, melts into dressings and sauces, and makes a wonderful gentle introduction to vegan blue cheese for the uninitiated. Do note it is made from nuts and prepared in a facility that also handles gluten, soya, and mustard, so it is one to keep in mind around allergies.
