Why you'll love this Bree
Brick Lane Bree is a plant-based brie that genuinely delivers on the promise of a proper soft cheese. Delicately coated in an authentic white bloomy rind cultured with the same penicillium candidum used in traditional brie-making, it has a soft, creamy, gooey interior with a mild, buttery, mushroomy flavour. Made from a base of almonds and shea butter, it melts luxuriously and carries a distinctive hint of truffle that deepens its rich, savoury character. It is a complex, bright, dairy-free cheese that defies easy comparison, and one that has helped change what people expect from vegan fromage.
How to use Brick Lane Bree
This is a cheeseboard centrepiece first and foremost, best served at room temperature so the interior turns soft and oozing, alongside crackers, crusty bread, chutney, and fresh fruit. Because it melts beautifully, it is also wonderful baked whole until molten and scoopable, spread over warm sourdough, or folded through pasta and tarts for a rich, truffled finish. A glass of plant-based wine makes a natural partner. Do note that it is made from nuts and contains soy and mustard, so it is one to keep in mind around allergies.
About La Fauxmagerie
La Fauxmagerie is the UK's first plant-based cheesemonger, founded in 2019 by sisters Rachel and Charlotte Stevens after they met their future suppliers while searching for better-quality vegan products. What began as a small shop just off Brick Lane quickly outgrew its first home and grew into a much-loved artisanal brand, now stocked at Waitrose cheese counters and beyond, with its own range of crafted plant-based cheeses. The company champions genuinely good dairy-free cheese with a strong ethical and environmental focus, estimating its cheeses emit around 95% less greenhouse gas and use 89% less water than dairy, and wrapping everything in recycled, recyclable, or biodegradable packaging.
