Rich, dark and faintly bittersweet with a soft, creamy give at the centre, Booja-Booja's Salted Caramel Mocha Chocolate Truffle Eight Box 92g pairs oozing caramel and a hit of ground coffee inside a dark chocolate shell. It's a small box of eight truffles made for slow, considered eating rather than snacking.
Each truffle begins with an organic dark chocolate ganache, run through with liquid caramel and finely ground coffee, then enrobed in more dark chocolate and finished with a scatter of hand harvested Cornish sea salt. The bite comes from that outer shell before it gives way to a smooth, almost silky centre where the coffee lingers and the salt cuts through the sweetness. Made without dairy and registered with the Vegan Society, the whole batch fits easily onto a shared plate without anyone needing to ask.
Take them out of the fridge a little before eating so the ganache has time to soften properly rather than staying firm. They sit well alongside a short, strong coffee or a glass of something dark and fortified, and the coffee and sea salt in the recipe make them a reasonable partner for a simple cheese board at the end of a meal. With eight in the box, they also work cut in half if you want to spread them further across a table.
Booja-Booja works mainly in organic, dairy-free chocolate, drawing cocoa, coconut oil and other ingredients from small organic suppliers across Europe rather than leaning on milk or stabilisers to carry the flavour. This box, pairing a caramel ganache with ground coffee and Cornish sea salt, is a fair example of how far that short, considered ingredients list can go.
